Not everyone owns and operates their own studio. Many Dance instructors hire themselves out as subcontracted dance teachers to help round out a studios instructional offering.

Sole Proprietor Dance Instructors don’t own or lease the premises they occupy, and as such don’t typically own extensive contents. These Sole Proprietors tend to rent a dance studio or space at a community center, church or other venue and hold their classes here. The sole proprietor Dance Instructor is responsible for creating and teaching their own classes and they keep any profit generated from the classes.

These individuals do not require a full Dance Studio Insurance package. They are mobile and only require the commercial and professional liability offered through our Individual Dance Instructors package.

Coverage provided for Individual Instructors is as follows:

Liability

Your policy provides $2,000,000 per occurrence of liability with an annual aggregate of $2,000,000. The term aggregate indicates that this is the maximum amount payable in any one (1) policy year inclusive of defense cost. The $2,000,000 limit of liability is shared between what is called Commercial General Liability and Professional Liability (also known as Errors and Omissions or E&O insurance)

Commercial General Liability

Covers the individual dance inistructor for bodily injury or property damage that you and/or your business cause to a third party. Example – one of the parents of a student slips on ice in the parking lot and shatters their wrist. You are served a statement of claim (you are named in a lawsuit) for $500,000 to compensate the parent for Pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of Life, cost of care, cost of future care, Loss of income etcetera. The commercial general liability section of the Individual Dance Dance Instructors Insurance policy would provide the Instructor with a defense for the lawsuit and pay up to $2,000,000 in settlement.

Professional Liability / Errors and Omissions Insurance

Covering the Individual dance instructor from lawsuit due to an error or an omission in their professional activities. Example – a student of the dance studio fractures her neck while being taught how to do a front flip in Acro class. The parents of the injured student bring a lawsuit against the Individual dance Instructor. The student has permanent paralysis of her legs and will never walk let alone dance again. This would not be covered by the Commercial General Liability insurance, as the lawsuit was a result of an error or omission (Professional Liability) of the dance instructor. The Professional Liability / Errors and Omissions section of the Individual Dance Instructors Insurance Policy would provide the Instructor with a defense for the lawsuit and pay up to $2,000,000 in settlement.
